Don Pasquale – November 23, 26 & 29

Saddle up for an evening of light-hearted laughter with the classic, very human tale of an ornery old fool cured of his desire to marry a much younger woman. Bachelorhood never looked so good!

LaBoheme – April 5, 8 & 11

Embrace one of the most romantic operas of all time, a coming-of-age story about love and loss set in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 1830s.

Fresh off the heels of their Australian and European tour, Counting Crows and The Wallflowers, who just came off a highly successful Eric Clapton arena tour, announced today their U.S. summer tour. The 22-stop tour will make its way through cities such as Boston, Chicago and San Francisco making a stop in Winnipeg Canada on July 10. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting April 26 at Ticketmaster.ca.

Every ticket purchased will come with a copy of Counting Crows’ new live album Echoes of The Outlaw Roadshow. The album was recorded and mixed by Shawn Dealey, who worked with the band on their latest studio release Underwater Sunshine

Both Counting Crows and The Wallflowers are dynamic rock bands with fans all over the world and millions in album sales. The relationship between the two bands dates back to 1996 when Adam Duritz lent background vocals to the Wallflowers hit, “6th Avenue Heartache.” Counting Crows –Adam Duritz (vocals), Jim Bogios (drums), David Bryson (guitar), Charlie Gillingham (keyboards), David Immergluck (guitar), Millard Powers (bass) and Dan Vickrey (guitar) – have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide after exploding onto the music scene with their multiplatinum breakout album August and Everything After in 1993. Their most recent album, Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation), features a collection of 15 gorgeously rendered songs in which the modern rock mainstays honor global icons, indie-pop heroes, compelling up-and-comers and even their own seminal pre-Crows projects. The album was released April 10, 2012. In the span of their career, Grammy-award winning The Wallflowers have released six studio and one compilation album. Their most recent studio album, Glad All Over, was released on October 9, 2012 after the band – Jakob Dylan (vocals), Rami Jaffee (keyboards), Greg Richling (bass), Stuart Mathis (guitar) and Jack Irons (drums) – announced the end of their hiatus in November 2011.

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) presents Mnozil Brass, the ‘Monty Pythons’ of music, as they unravel new show Blofeld.

It is almost impossible to find an existing group of musicians being committed to the pledge of the secrets of music theatre as Mnozil Brass. They are the only ones acting as their own actors, orchestra, ballet, chorus and ensemble of soloists – all at the same time. The seven musicians manage all of that without any apparent effort. Mnozil Brass will unravel Blofeld with their Winnipeg audience in celebration of nearly two decades performing together.

Tickets: $25 (all taxes included, please see www.wso.ca for tickets, or call (204) 949-3999.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is thrilled to present Loreena McKennitt at the Centennial Concert Hall on Friday, August 9. Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 30 at 10:00 AM through Ticketmaster, 1-855-985-5000, or visit a ticketmaster outlet.

Originally from Morden, Manitoba, Loreena McKennitt made her first record in 1985 as something to sell while she was busking in downtown Toronto – a recording that took her across the country on the first of dozens of concert tours she has made since. Succeeding records reflected both her adventures around the world, and her ongoing search for the roots of Celtic music.

She has always retained control of her music, her record label, and her active business, and is one of the world’s most successful independent musicians.

Along the way, she has won numerous prizes and awards, including membership in the Order of Canada and a recent Grammy Award nomination. In addition, she received the Winnipeg Folk Festival’s Artistic Achievement Award in 2004 and is the artistic chair of the Festival’s Staging the Future capital campaign. She has sold 14 million records, has written film and television scores, has created three concert DVDs.

Winnipeg, MB – March 22, 2013 – The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is thrilled to announce its 2013-2014 season!

The WSO announces an historic season as it presents a multitude of international soloists and conductors along with a performance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. The Orchestra looks forward to the return visits from many guest artists: Andre Laplante, James Ehnes, Augustin Hadelich and Natalie MacMaster as well as American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones; as well as some notable WSO debuts: country singing sensation Lindi Ortega, George “Sulu” Takei and James Bond, to name a few.

WSO 2013-14 season video preview

The 66th season will include six unique series, 36 concert programs and 58 concert dates. “I am so excited to share this historical season’s musical adventures with our audiences,” says WSO Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate. “I am very proud to present an all-Canadian program at Carnegie Hall in May 2014, and to have a new composer focus with a Tchaikovsky Festival in autumn. From the depths of Bruckner 8 to the fun of Manitoba Rocks with a dose of Frank Zappa and Jonny Greenwood thrown in for good measure, this season represents our city’s rich musical character and spirit.”
